ED PS 6447: Introduction to Web-based Tools
Description:
This University of Utah graduate course includes an overview of tools used in web-based applications. Tools covered will include HTML, Microsoft Frontpage, Adobe GoLive, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, and Java scripting. It is estimated that approximately five to six hours per week of independent computer laboratory time will be needed to become proficient in web creation.
Prerequisites:
Basic computer and Internet skills. A basic understanding of html is helpful but not required.
Objectives:
- Become acquainted with various strategies of using computers to support instruction and learning, especially on the World Wide Web.
- Apply criteria for effective instruction for design and use of computer-mediated learning materials.
- Design and develop components of an instructional Web site to support instruction and learning.
Homework:
Create your resume on the Web. This will include a photo of yourself and three or more separate Web pages with navigation among the pages.
Group project - Create a computer-mediated learning product that teaches a concept or procedure using David Merrill's criteria for 5-star instruction. Details of the assignment will be given during the course.

This course can be used to satisfy the "Enhanced Software & Hardware Skills" component of the Educational Technology Endorsement Program (ETEP).
