The metadata elements clustered under KEYWORD SEARCHES are an aggregation of descriptors that identify people, places, things, activities, and time/date/year associations, using established picklists and authorities for recommended words, phrases, and values where possible. KEYWORD SEARCHES is intended to collect under a single "umbrella" summary field all the relevant, searchable field topics and names (similar to the way in which end users "Google" online resources). Keywords improve the "findability" of relevant media assets. |

OTHER SUPPLIED KEYWORDS is a catch-all subject field intended to capture keywords supplied by metadata schemas outside of UEN DMS that don't otherwise fit into the structure of the numerous "cataloging" fields created within UMAP for the purposes of feeding the functional rule for kw_keyword_summary. Sometimes general subjects and genres are supplied by outside entities as well as lists of related keywords (such as UCME does). |

Separate multiple entries with a semi-colon and a space, except for the final entry which should not have any trailing punctuation. If the keywords imported from an outside metadata schema do not follow this convention, then UMAP may simply have to accept the variance and move on with life. Harmonizing data between metadata schemas, if attempted in an automatic process, is never 100% perfect in its translations (and much depends on how compulsive the external metadata schema was in its original data entry, conforming to semantics, authorities, and structured syntax). |
