The metadata elements clustered under TITLES identify given, supplied, and alternative titles for media items, as well as the type of title being assigned and its unique media identifier. Included under TITLES is a Contextual Title which helps identify the hierarchical context in which a media item exists; the Contextual Titles also alphabetize search results nicely as they identify the components of a title statement from the largest context down to the smallest context. |

Item ID (unique key field) |
[for cataloging][Where Clause] |
The ITEM ID is a globally unique label that identifies a media item other than through its title. The ITEM ID employs an unambiguous reference or identifier for record in the database and its associated media item. Best practice is to identify the media item (whether analog or digital) by means of a string or number corresponding to an established or formal identification system if one exists. Otherwise, use an identification method that is employed within your agency, station, production company, office, or institution that is applied in a consistent manner and that offers a unique value for a media item. NOTE: This is not necessarily the file name, but it may represent a portion of the actual media item's file name. |
"Item ID" is one of the mandatory metadata fields that must be populated in a challenge window when a video program is being set up for ingestion with the Telescope Video Manager system. umap_item_id is used as the "match field" data used to match records from external metadata schemas with UMAP. |
