Jump$tartJump$tart Coalition Gets Award

The Utah Jump$tart Coalition was awarded the 2006 National State Coalition of the Year award from the national Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.

The award, in its second year, recognizes state affiliates that exhibit "a true sense of the word 'coalition,' with broad-based community support," according to Laura Levine, national Jump$tart Coalition executive director. Levine honored the Utah coalition for its teacher's' seminars, speakers bureaus, and six satellite coalition organizations in rural Utah.

"Many of us who are in our 30s, 40s and 50s were not taught this subject (of financial literacy) in our homes," said Lynn Rowe, chairman of the Utah Jump$tart Coalition. "Now we realize how important this subject is, and we think that teachers need this key instruction to help them teach their students."
