Invasion of the Animal People As proof that bad movies are made by every generation, the 1995 it's-so-awful-I-can't-stop-watching flick "Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders" is featured in this episode of MST3K. Two stories loosely linked by a framing device, "Merlin's Shop" presents the horrific consequences of magic gone wrong. In the first story, Merlin and his wife have time-traveled to the 20th Century, where they try to convince an ordinary joe, a fact-loving journalist, that magic is real. In the second, a demonic toy monkey from the shop ends up becoming a young boy's birthday present. Merlin goes on the hunt for the object, but not before it wreaks some havoc on the family that had the poor taste to adopt it in the first place.

MST3K jolted new life into old movies with its wraparound low-budget production of the adventures of Joel Robinson and his robots, Crow, Tom Servo and Gypsy who are trapped on a space station and subjected to watching bad movies by an evil scientist.

Dr. Trafton Drew, a neuroscientist at the University of Utah, discusses Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders, his research and the psychology of perception.
