Scream of the Wolf

Scream of the Wolf Someone—or something—is attacking the unwary residents of a western town in the 1974 made-for-TV movie 'Scream of the Wolf". While evidence has the locals looking for wolves, others are not so sure. Tapped by the sheriff for help, former big game hunter, John Weatherby consults with his one-time friend and past hunting buddy Byron Douglas. But as the stakes and the body count climb, Byron seems more interested in the electrifying effect the deaths are having on his neighbors than on stopping the killers. At stake in the film is more than just a confrontation between man and beast: as the sheriff, Weatherby and Weatherby's girlfriend Sandy Miller fret over the killings, Byron coolly and steadily argues for the empowering rush of vitality that predation and death imbue on an entire town of 'drudges."

Though wolves are depicted as a threatening in the film, reports of wolf attacks are nearly unheard of in North America and of the European attacks, many researchers are inclines to attribute them to rabies. Directed by Dan Curtis of 'Dark Shadows" (1966-1971) fame, 'Scream of the Wolf" stars Peter Graves as Weatherby. If Graves looks familiar, there's a reason: he appeared in more than seventy productions, including numerous westerns and the 1966 version of 'Mission Impossible" and the 1990s series 'Biography" on A&E. Byron Douglas is played by Clint Walker, an actor whose 6' 6" frame and good looks graced a good number of films such as Cecil B, DeMille's 'The Ten Commandments" (1956) and the iconic war movie 'The Dirty Dozen" (1967). Sandy Miller is played by Jo Ann Pflug, whose credits include Lt. Dish in 'M.A.S.H." (1970).
