Harrison and Benjamin Harrison were grandfather and grandson, James Madison and Zachary Taylor were second cousins, and Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt were fifth cousins. Seven presidents were born in Ohio and eight in Virginia. Martin Van Buren was the first president who was born a United States citizen. Chester A. Arthur, Millard Fillmore, Gerald R. Ford, Andrew Johnson, and John Tyler were never elected president; they became president after the death or resignation of another president.
