Poetry Hotlist - Secondary During the last twelve years of his life, a blind John Milton dictated his poetry to his daughter, nephews, or other people hired to assist him. He spent his mornings dictating what he had composed in his head during the night.

The Academy of American Poets

Geared to secondary teachers, this excellent site has teaching ideas, biographical information about the poets, and even audio clips of their works.

If you want to quickly find Maya Angelou's Inauguration Poem or Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven, this is a useful site. From Carnegie Mellon University, find full text of many well-known poems.


The Oxford Book of English Verse : 1250 - 1900

You'll find the poetry of the best English poets covering 700 years.


Voices & Visions

Voices & Visions is a video series. However, their website has links to the poets in the series as well as video clips about each one.

Check out this archive of English sonnets, commentary, pictures, and relevant web links. Sonnets are grouped by period or by alphabetical listing of poet.


American Verse Project

The project is assembling an electronic archive of volumes of American poetry prior to 1920.
