Zoom Panoramic of Pond (11)

The community has created a pond for Meadowbrook's outdoor classroom. The pond is surrounded by native Utah plants. Your browser must have a plugin to view panoramic scenes. The Zoom Viewer plugin can be obtained by clicking here: get plugin. (Be sure to install it after downloading).

Some questions to consider:
1. Scroll to the left and notice the River Birch. Scroll pass the tall tree to the Sage Brush among the rocks. How does the Sage Brush differ from the River Birch? Do you think the River Birch and the Sage Brush would share the same growing areas in nature? Why or why not?

2. Scroll left of the Sage Brush and notice the Spruce Tree. Scroll left again to the large rock over the pond outlet and notice the Quaking Aspen trees in the background. Some trees are deciduous. Can you spot which one is deciduous? How will the trees appear in the Winter time?

3. Continue to scroll left past the handcart and pioneer cabin to the rock waterfall. You can see a Pussy Willow in the foreground. Compare the leaves on the Pussy Willow (you may need to zoom in) to the needles on the conifers (to the right and left of the Pussy Willow). Which plant is better adapted to survive periods of drought?

You can discuss these questions and others about Pond Ecology at Pond Talk.
