Victor Vassarely, a French artist, best known for his Op-Art paintings that dazzle they eyes, was born in Pecs, Hungary. He went to medical school in Budapest, in 1925; but before completeing his training as a doctor, he dicided to become an artist. He began his new studeies in 1927, first becoming acquainted with the Bauhaus painters and participating with them in emphasizing good design, as opposed to realistic portrayal of objects.
Since the early 1960's Victor Vassarely has become more and more preoccupied with surface movement and the interaction of form and color. Vassarely participated in teh Bauhaus group in the 1930's. He painted abstract pictures using shapes and color to move the viewer's eye to produce the intended effect.
