Haemus Mons is a mountain near the south pole of Io. Its base measures 200km by 100km. Unlike a volcanic caldera, it did not form from a volcano. Scientists think it formed from early earthquakes that helped create the volcanoes. Another theory is that when the moon formed, Haemus Mons was formed with it.
