Utah's Online School Library Updates

We are excited to announce significant enhancements to Utah’s Online School Library!

Following an extensive review process, the Utah’s Online Library RFP committee has selected several new resources to enhance the educational resources available to Utah students and educators. These databases will be accessible starting July 1, 2024.

New additions to the library include SIRS Discoverer, Sora eBooks, Global Newspapers and others. Familiar favorites like Gale, CultureGrams and World Book Online will continue to be available. A complete list of resources can be found below.

Beginning July 1, EBSCO databases will no longer be available in the library. To assist educators in navigating this change, we’ve created an EBSCO to Gale crosswalk to assist in discovering suitable alternatives within the library.

We are confident that these additions, alongside our existing offerings, will further solidify Utah’s Online School Library as an indispensable resource hub for educators and students throughout the state.

Reference Collection

Gale databases offer scholarly, peer-reviewed content across various disciplines. From full-text journal articles to eBooks, these databases provide reliable information for all ages. Utah's Online School Library includes over fifteen Gale resources for elementary, middle and high school.

Car-care guidance at your fingertips. ChiltonLibrary provides access to repair, maintenance and service information on most cars, trucks, vans and SUVs on the road today. This resource offers detailed content to simplify even the most complicated tasks.

Explore amazing science, nature, culture, archeology and space adventures using the beloved National Geographic Kids resource. Scan full magazines and books or explore high-quality videos, images and more.

Gale Books and Authors New to Utah's Online Library, Gale Books and Authors helps students match their reading interests with a book or author. Gale Books and Authors, a reader’s advisory database, makes finding a great read much less challenging.

Gale’s premier periodical resource, Gale Academic OneFile, provides millions of articles from over 17,000 scholarly journals and other authoritative sources—including thousands of podcasts and transcripts from NPR and CNN, as well as videos from BBC Worldwide Learning.

Great for all ages, CultureGrams provides concise, reliable reports on over 200 countries and territories. It includes details on daily life, history, customs and lifestyles.

SIRS Researcher by ProQuest is a comprehensive online resource for academic research, offering a curated collection of articles, primary sources and multimedia content across various subjects. Students can explore a wealth of reliable information for projects, essays or classroom discussions.

Designed to support the research needs of young learners, SIRS Discoverer by ProQuest is an engaging online resource where students and teachers can access a carefully curated collection of articles, images and multimedia content.

Global Newsstream provides access to the most influential and respected contemporary news resources from around the globe—from today's news to backfiles dating back to the 1980s. This comprehensive contemporary news collection is updated daily and delivers superior access to current full-text newspapers, television and radio transcripts, podcasts and more.

An engaging collection of resources that brings books to life, TeachingBooks strives to enrich everyone's experience reading children's and young adult books with original and curated literary resources.

Sora by OverDrive is a digital platform that connects students and educators to a vast collection of eBooks and audiobooks. It simplifies borrowing and reading, offering customizable features and real-time analytics to track progress. World Book Online is a comprehensive digital encyclopedia and research platform designed for students and educators. Digital Science Online is an annual subscription to an elementary or secondary school collection of science videos, clips, animations, images, assessments, student activities and teacher's guides. Teachers and students have 24/7 access to Visual Learning Systems' vast science media library at home or school. Digital Science Online is also available in Spanish.

Soundzabound is the #1 royalty-free music resource for schools. The extensive library offers a wide variety of music, audio themes and sound effects for grades K-12. eMedia is a digital library of educational resources created specifically for Utah educators. It includes lesson plans, videos and interactive materials aligned to Utah standards.
