Ghost Riders and Rest Stops Packet B

 

BLACKROCK STATION

Dear Students,

When the stagecoach topped Dugway Pass, both team and passengers needed a breather before going on. This was especially true when the travelers had to hike behind the heavily laden coach, or worse yet, had to push it through deep sand. From the pass they could look out on the desert to the west. In the distance a black volcanic cone rose above the wasteland. In the shadow of that landmark was their next stop. Blackrock Station had nothing to offer the traveler except a short rest while the teams were changed. Water was expensive and meals and lodging was unheard of. Few stayed longer than necessary though the trail ahead was hard.
