The objective of this project is to use GPS and GIS to describe the distribution of potholes in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Variables impacting the distribution of potholes are traffic volume, amount of stop and go traffic, road speed limit, and pavement age. Use of GPS/GIS technologies can help develop a pothole repair strategy leading to a reduction in repair costs. Project results are made available to planners to assist them in establishing an efficient, cost-saving repair strategy.
Instructional procedures and needed files and data are found in the Whole Pothold Project.rtf file. Because it is laden with graphics and screenshots it will not be reproduced in this space but will need to be opened from the attachment.
