Review hunting/gathering survival techniques of each Utah tribe, and the geographical regions of Utah. Review the Four Essential Questions Review with the students your expectations for a role play. Divide your class into groups. Assign each group one of the regions of Utah. Each group should discuss the geography of their particular region and discuss the most beneficial way to hunt or gather food. The group should then create their own role play to present to the class. Each group will share their role play with the entire class. Teachers may want to have students share them with parents or other classes.
Students could compare/contrast survival skills of today with those of the Native Americans. Students could list survival skills instead of performing a role play.
Make certain that every student is involved in the group role play. Students watching the role plays could offer positive feedback to the students performing.
