Summary

Using a short story of your choice, students organize story events into proper sequence.


Materials

  • Short story of your choice - a book with flashbacks may be best (e.g. Patricia Polacco, Mem Fox)
  • Blank word strips

Pre-read story that you selected.


Student Prior Knowledge

Students should be able to identify story events.


Instructional Procedures

  1. Read the story.
  2. As a whole class, make sentence strips with main events of the story.
  3. Hand sentence strips to students randomly.
  4. Instruct students to organize themselves in proper sequence of the story.


Assessment Plan

Students can draw pictures of each event of another story and create a story 'quilt' in proper sequence.
