Background for Teachers

Communication motivator--"The Water Closet"

Read "The Water Closet" story to the students. Then have a brief discussion that leads the students to identify that the basic problem was a lack of adequate communication on the part of the little old lady (the sender) and the schoolmaster (the receiver).

Direct their attention to the misunderstandings that followed and potential problems stemming from the inadequate communication.

This story illustrates why good communication skills, both sending and receiving, are very important.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will learn the importance of good communication and the various ways they can communicate.
