This lesson will introduce the writing skill of cause and effect as related to the CCSS ELA Literacy w.6.2A core standard.

Vocabulary and definitions of cause and effect

Student Prior Knowledge


Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to identify and define causes and effects in situations. They will determine that the cause occurs first, followed but the effect. They will be able to define and use each word, as well as complete a cause and effect worksheet.

Instructional Procedures

The students will be introduced to cause and effect through an Abobe Voice App presentation. They then will practice cause and effect on their own and then present their paper to the class.

Strategies for Diverse Learners

Pictures and words are used in the presentation. Students may work in pairs if needed.


Write an essay or narrative with.a cause and effect situation.

Assessment Plan

Have the students complete a cause/effect worksheet showing they understand the relationship between these two.
