Summary

Students will use a “knowledge check” table to analyze their background knowledge about atoms.

Instructional Procedures

Procedures:

  1. This checklist can be used at the beginning of a unit on atoms as a pre-assessment or frontloading activity.
  2. Read the directions with students and allow them to fill out the chart.
  3. If students find they cannot define the words they thought they knew, have them change their checked answers.
  4. Use the sheet as the unit progresses for students to update their progress.
  5. A vocabulary quiz at the end of the unit should show student progress on their understanding of these words.
