Summary
The students will write a RAFT (role, audience, format, topic) about an imaginary trip inside Earth.
Materials
Instructional Procedures
- Create a "black box" with an object (figurine, apple, block) wrapped in clay. Ask a couple of student to come up and poke the clay with toothpicks or barbeque skewers. As they work, have one of them draw it on the board. When they think they know what it is, unwrap it from the clay. Connect this activity to how scientists know about Earth's layers.
- Hand out the student sheet. Use an overhead to explain if the students need help.
- Give the students 20 minutes to write.
- In groups of four have the students read theirs out loud and as a group choose the best one. This can then be read to the class.
