Instructional Procedures

  1. Before you show students the article, begin by having them predict what the "Four Threats" to Utah forests might be. List them on the board as students suggest them. Have students vote on what the top four might be.
  2. Hand out the article "Four Threats" and allow students time to read.
  3. Ask students to pick one of the threats and access the links provided to write a persuasive essay about the problem. It should include a problem statement and supporting details. The students should end it with a conclusion about their position and a statement concerning their response to the problem. The essay should be no more than one page.
  4. Ask the students to work in groups of four and read each other's essays. They should pick one that they want to read to the class.
