Websites

  1. Use the LCD projector to view opening of the Internet and review how to access an Internet site through use of a URL.
  2. Direct students to the UEN website where they will be able to start and complete Pioneer Scavenger Hunt.
  3. After completing scavenger hunt discuss other ways to conduct research on the Internet through use of a search engine.
  4. Conduct a basic search with a search engine with the class watching through use of the LCD projector. (If you do not have access to a projector have the students gather around a computer, either as an entire class or in groups. If this is being done in the computer lab, other students could be wroking on another assignment as you conduct groups viewing a search engine.
  5. Have students go to individual computers where they conduct their own search on a subject that you have assigned or one that you have approved.

Strategies for Diverse Learners

For those students who might struggle with this type of activity, pair them with another student who can teach and guide the slower learner.

Assessment Plan

  • Make sure that students have completed the Pioneer Scavenger Hunt to 80% accuracy.
  • Walk around the room to watch as students conduct their search with a search engine and determine that they feel comfortable with the process through questions and observation.
