This lesson will the attempted Dominguez-Escalante expedition from Santa Fe to California.

Student Prior Knowledge

The area we now call Utah and most of the mid-western and western states were first claimed by Spain. In the 1800's many Spanish explorers traveled through Utah while searching for a more efficient trade route to California.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to explain the contributions of the Spanish explorers in the eventual settlement of the West.

Students will problem solve by utilizing the Internet to plan purchases for a modern day expedition.

Learn more about Spain by taking a virtual tour.

Assessment Plan

The students will be able to sing the song, "Santa Fe to Monterey"

Students will submit their Provision Forms.

Students will compare and contrast the provisions available to the Dominguez/Escalante Expedition and the current day supplies(Bloom’s Taxonomy- Evaluate).
