POPULATION

By Allan Kent Powell
The three following tables summarize the growth of Utah's population and the changes in that population over time.

Table I looks at the total population of Utah by decades, comparing it with the population of the United States of America as well as what part of the total population Utah represents.

Table II summarizes the change in population by county between 1850 and 1990.

Table III summarizes Utah's population by community and census precinct from 1890 to 1990.

Note: During the various censuses, the districts may have varied in size. For instance, in a number of cases in the early years, the census was taken for the entire precinct and this figure is listed; in subsequent censuses where the figure for the town or city is given that figure is listed rather than a figure for the whole precinct.
