1 class periods of 45 minutes each
Large Groups
This activity combines learned history/social studies facts with PE skills to make a fun educational activity.
You need large pictures of famous people, inventions, countries etc., that correspond with the unit you have just taught.
Use this activity as a unit review.
Students will listen and follow directions working cooperatively as a team. Assessment can be made on how well they know their social studies facts.
Show the students the pictures you are going to use in a whole class discussion. Then cut all the pictures in half. Divide the class into teams of 4. Split the teams up so that they are on opposite sides of the gym facing each other. Put one half of each picture in a line in front of the students. Blow a whistle to signal 2 students from a team (each from opposite sides of the gym) to take a half picture and run to the middle of the gym. Instruct team members to see if their picture halves match to make a whole picture. If the don't match, they take the picture back to their spot and give the next student a turn. If they match, they must leave their whole picture in the middle of the gym. The first team to get 4 matches wins.
As part of activity, students must describe the facts/information that belongs to the correctly matched picture to each other before returning to their team to continue the activity.
Students successfully match pictures from curriculum concepts learned. Students can successfully match pictures in a set amount of time.
