    Background For Teachers:
This assignment works best when given after the Historical Fashion Eras have been discussed in class. It can be used to integrate what the students just learned into their own lives. It can help them relate to the different fashion fads that they have experienced. It may be helpful for you to think back on the different things you have worn; when you explain the assignment to the students, you can use some examples from your own life to elaborate further.

    Student Prior Knowledge:
It may be helpful for students to have learned about the different fashion eras before they do this assignment. On the other hand, it may be a good assignment to use as an introduction to the Historical Fashion Eras unit.

    Intended Learning Outcomes:
This lesson can help students relate their knowledge to the different fashion fads they have experienced.

    Instructional Procedures:

    • Hand out a copy of the assignment sheet to each member of the class.
    • Read through the assignment sheet, going over all the different writing options and where the points will be earned in the paper. Stress the importance of using the spell-check option on their computers. Tell them it may even be a good idea to have someone proofread the papers before final copies are printed.
    • Discuss different ideas that they can write about in order to fill the two-page requirement. Ideas are listed on the assignment sheet, but others that students come up with may be acceptable as well.
    • You may want to read a portion of a paper that you have written about your own fashion history. If you don't want to write the actual paper, discuss different examples from your own life that you would incorporate into your paper.
    • Give the students a specific due date and ask them to attach the assignment sheets to their finished products when they hand them in. This way you will have the grading rubric on each paper as you read and grade them.

      Strategies For Diverse Learners:
A student having writing difficulties could be expected to write a shorter paper based on his or her individual writing capabilities.

      Assessment Plan:
Read through each paper individually with the grading rubric attached to the paper. It may be helpful to write comments and correct grammar and spelling as you read through so that you can complete the rubric as you go.
