Summary: Materials: Background For Teachers: Intended Learning Outcomes: Instructional Procedures: Review parts of speech. Students may access the Internet to find clipart, graphics, examples of parts of speech projects, or significant historical landmarks. Instruct students that multimedia presentations are used in all professions as sales pitches, lectures, or other information sharing settings. You may want to share one of your own multimedia presentations as an example. Ask students to share what they know about multimedia productions and their uses. Explain the connection with the students' multimedia presentation and how it could be used in the current labor market. Parts of Speech Roundup--Each pair of students will create a multimedia presentation using PowerPoint or equivalent software. The presentation will highlight one part of speech, its definition, graphics or art that demonstrates the part of speech, five example sentences with the particular part of speech in bold, a minimum of 10 word examples of the part of speech, a ten question quiz, and finally an historic landmark project highlighting the chosen part of speech. (Minimum 15 slides) Give presentation to the class. Written report given to the teacher.
Extensions: ESOL students may wish to complete this project in groups of 3 or 4 students. These learners may wish to explain usage of a particular part of speech in their native language.
A specific part of speech or its use may be assigned depending upon the student's level of understanding. Example: pronouns and their antecedents. Assessment Plan: Project Rubric (4) Presentation and paper contains: attractive, colorful design which includes the name of the historical landmark; accurate picture or drawing of landmark; chart listing facts about the landmark; project shows considerable effort in planning to create 'eye appeal'; work neatly done; correct spelling and punctuation use; completed on time; correct identification and use of part of speech; excellent quiz. (3) Attractive graphics and backgrounds; project shows some effort in planning to create 'eye appeal'; work neatly done; sincere effort to use correct spelling and punctuation; completed on time; correct identification of part of speech, but usage may not be correct; good quiz. (2) Colorful background; work neatly done; contains some spelling and punctuation errors; completed on time; correct identification of part of speech; no quiz.
