Summary: Students will begin sewing and practice their basic skills.
Main Curriculum Tie: FACS Exploration Standard 20.0101-04 Objective 20.0101-0405 Learn basic sewing techniques constructing a sewing project: seam allowances, backstitch, pivot and miter, seam finishes, casing, machine rolled hem, top stitch, button hole, attach a button, and pressing/ironing techniques. National Standards 16.4.1, 16.4.5 Career Connections: - Tailoring, Clothing Construction, Crafts
Materials: Denim squares and thread for each student.
Background For Teachers: Make sure supplies are ready and that the lab is ready for sewing.
Student Prior Knowledge: Students need to know basic sewing terminology before completing this activity. They must know how to work a sewing machine. Intended Learning Outcomes: Students will learn how to run a sewing machine and complete basic stitching. Instructional Procedures:
