Summary: Learning facts from Debussy's life and exploring some of his music.
Materials: Internet access in classroom; TV &Pc convertor; large area to move around in (close to the computer or TV).
Intended Learning Outcomes: Students will learn about Debussy and listen to some of his music. They will show through movement how the music makes them feel. Instructional Procedures: Explain that you will be talking about a famous music composer named CLAUDE DEBUSSY. Write the name on the board. Ask them what they would like to know about him and write thier ideas on the board. Look up the link and either as a class review some background information or read before hand for some interesting facts to share. I recommend doing this before hand since the information is long.
-Share the things you found interesting about him and write facts on the board.
-Share the second link with the class.
Open the link on this step and choose a piece of music to share with the class- I recommend Clair de Lune, Reviere, or Children's Corner. Have them listen with thier eyes closed and lights off for a short while.
Spread the class out so each child has room to move freely. Play part of 'Snow is Dancing' from the Children's Corner and have the children dance around the room like snow- lightly and freely. If you have the music to the rest of the Childen's Corner, 'Jumbo the Elephant' would be a great one to do after 'Snow is Dancing'.
Choose other selections to listen to and have the children move according to how the music makes them feel.

Extensions: Painting to classical music is a great way to show expression and emotion. Give the child a large piece of paper and some paints. Have them paint whatever comes to thier mind as they listen to different songs by Debussy.
