FACS: Clothing Lab Equipment (Textiles)

Time Frame:
2 class periods that run 45 minutes each.

Group Size:


Students will learn the basic supplies used in a clothing construction laboratory.

Main Curriculum Tie:
FACS 6th Grade
Strand 4 Standard 1

Demonstrate basic skills related to apparel production and textiles.

Worksheets for students, serger, sewing machine, rotary cutter, and mat

Background For Teachers:
Decide the order you wish to teach the information listed below. Practice any demonstrations you will be doing for students.

Student Prior Knowledge:
Basic sewing terminology.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
Students will use a rotary mat and cutter.

Students will be introduced to the serger.

Students will understand the background information on sewing machines and how they work.

Instructional Procedures:
Students should be taught the basics of a clothing lab by completing the activities listed below.
