As
the morning sun warms the air, a sleepy lizard will crawl out of its hole
into the sunlight. It will lie on a rock until the heat from the sun warms
its body. Then it becomes very active, hunting for food and defending
its territory. If the sun becomes too hot, the lizard will find some shade
until it is cool enough to hunt again. As the sun sets and air cools,
the lizard returns back to its hole to sleep until the sun again warms
the air.
Other animals and people also depend on the sun for heat and light. We eat plants which make food out of sunlight. Many people eat animals which eat plants for food. Without sunlight, plants wouldn't make oxygen, which we breathe. Nearly all the heat on Earth comes from sunlight. The sun also makes the wind blow. Its heat makes clouds, rain, and all the weather on our planet.
