Micro-Organisms - But Can You Prove It? - Investigation
Once your hypothesis is finished, it must be tested by setting up a scientific experiment. A controlled experiment is one good way to test your hypothesis. Scientists (you) will test only one factor (variable) at a time in an experiment. This will make it easier to get a clear result. You will also need to include a control in your experiment. The experiment set-up below will help show how an experiment can be set up using the milk example.
After you have the experiment figured out, then you need to make a list of materials that you will need and collect them.Materials:
- 2 plastic soda bottles and lids
- Milk
- Refrigerator
- Celsius Thermometer
Procedure:
- Fill each container half way with milk and put the lids on.
- Place one bottle in the refrigerator and the other at room temperature (counter).
- After three days, observe the milk in each bottle.
- Smell the milk in each bottle.
- Record the temperature of the milk in both bottles.
- Keep a record of your observations.
