As a pre-assessment and an introduction have the students complete BREAKFAST CROSSWORD PUZZLE and use it as a vehicle to generate discussion about why breakfast is important.

NOTE TO TEACHER:  If students do not know what a balanced meal is, explain to them that they will learn how to determine a balanced meal during this series of lessons.
