Materials:
Power point projector or copy of lesson plan, work paper for each student, copy of "Report Card" for each student, sample portfolios to show students.

Background For Teachers:
Reading of any of the resource materials would be helpful. The websites help teachers develop electronic portfolios available to parents on the web. What a new high tech idea!!!!

  • Creative Curriculum
    Website at which teachers can produce portfolio based on checklists and comments for each child and then make available to parents with a password. 50 objectives grouped in categories. Each objective is explained through many examples so both teacher and parent will know meaning.
  • Work Sampling Online
    Teachers can enter the data on each child in their class by entering a rating on many objectives grouped into categories. Teachers can scan samples of artwork, photos of children and post these on a website that is available to parents with a password.

Student Prior Knowledge:
It would be helpful for students to have worked in child care. Most of this information is new and probably not covered in child development.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
Students will complete work paper that accompanies power point presentation. They will be exposed to different ways in which to observe children.

Instructional Procedures:
Power point presentation along with handouts of work paper, sample report card, and sample portfolio.
