  • Color in Everyday Life video

Background for Teachers

Teachers may find it helpful to have read through the informational booklet that came along with the video. This may help to clarify what information will be covered and help teachers to know specifically how they want to use this information source--as a preview to the color unit as suggested in this lesson plan, or in some other way. The answer key to the listening guide is also found in the booklet.

Student Prior Knowledge

This lesson (showing the Color in Everyday Life video) should act as an introduction to the color unit. Students should be given a listening guide to help them focus in on the specifics that will help them to perform well in this unit.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will be briefly introduced to the variety of information covered in the color unit.

Instructional Procedures

Make sure that the video is ready to view from the beginning. Hand out a listening guide to each student. Remind students that the answers may not come in the order in which they are listed on the listening guide, so they will need to listen closely to the movie so that they hear all of the answers. Show the video. Once the video has finished, go over the answers to the listening guide as a class in order to reinforce what they just heard in the movie. Have students hand in the completed guides.

Strategies for Diverse Learners

To adapt this lesson for the struggling student, teachers may want to create a simpler listening guide--one in which students have to answer fewer questions or maybe just fill in one or two missing words in each question/statement.

Assessment Plan

Once the video is complete, go over the correct answers to the listening guide as a class. Discuss any questions students may have in a non-threatening manner as this lesson is acting as a preview for the more in-depth unit to come. Students should receive two points for each correct answer, for a total of 30 points possible on this assignment.
