A spreadsheet is a tool that can help solve the numeric "story problems" of your life. This assignment introduces how to set up Excel formulas based on fifteen simple scenarios (with five additional difficult scenarios for extra credit).
1)Math_Operations assignment sheet 2) MathFormulas file loaded on the shared drive
Teach formula symbols including = to begin a formula, and operators for add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Teach the order of operations (Multiply and Divide, then Add and Subtract) and using Parentheses to interrupt the order.
Understand that an important purpose of using a spreadsheet is to carry out mathematical calculations.
Students will design formulas in a format that would be applied in Excel. This assignment supports Core Standard 04, Objective 0404 for Computer Technology.
Teacher will teach concepts described in background information. I often join groups and help them work through a few of the problems. Students do not need to print any practice spreadsheets related to this assignment. They should only turn in the completed Math_Operations assignment with hand-written entries.
The lengthy story problems are a challenge for some students. The figures that are posted in the MathFormulas shared file help simplify the problem-solving.
