Summary

This activity helps students realize that communication is everywhere. It is a hands on activity and students are able to express themselves through their work.

Instructional Procedures

The assignment for students is to first, be familiar with all components. To help in this instruction, use the attached PowerPoint to clarify concepts. (HINT: In the PowerPoint there are notes with the slides. Be sure to view the notes pages.) Assignment - Students work in groups to find pictures in magazines that depict each component of communication. When the pictures are cut out, students arrange them on posters that are labeled with each component. Next to each picture, student write an explanation of why they chose that picture and how it connects to that component. Each group had a different color of paper and we compared and discussed when they were finished. The students really liked this because it connected the new concepts to things that are around them at all times.
