Summary:
In this lesson students will complete a reading survey to Students will become aware of their Reader Identity - reading preferences, habits, strengths, weaknesses, and attitudes.

Strand 1: Standard 1:

Build reading behaviors for lifelong learning and enjoyment of reading.

Background For Teachers:
This is the first lesson plan in a three lesson sequence on building individual reading interest and engaging students in reading.

Student Prior Knowledge:
Personal reading experiences.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
Students will become aware of their reading preferences, habits, strengths, weaknesses, and attitudes—their Reader Identity.

Instructional Procedures:
Allow 20 to 30 minutes for students to fill out the Interests and Reading Survey. Allow time for students to share responses with one another.

Strategies For Diverse Learners:
Help with any vocabulary words or terms that are unfamiliar.
