Summary: Students will: Compare the similarities and differences of geography and demography within SE Utah and the Four-Corners-Region, and the four states, after receiving direct instruction, completing research of previous two units and working in group structures, within 1 class periods.

Instructional Procedures: Anticipatory Set:
Post the words ‘Demography, economy, and physical characteristics’ on the board, on a flipchart or on a projection device and ask the class if they are familiar with these terms. Conduct a collective brainstorming session (utilizing group structures) and add the generated vocabulary words to posted ones. Allow students to postulate their understanding of words and concepts.
Activities:
1. Working in cooperative group structures, students will refer to map of Four-Corners region while revisiting their research from Lessons 1 and 2.
2. Utilizing graphic organizer, students will organize the places studied into the four states (by which one they are located in).
3. Utilizing a cooperative group structure, students will compare the states to each other, ascertain major similarities and differences between states, and possibly create new categories for sorting similarities and differences of places and of the four states.
4. Students will report to class from groups.
Assessment Plan: Students will utilize graphic organizer to list information from activities.
Unit Assessment:
Utilizing cooperative group structure, students will complete the activities of Lesson Three, which cumulatively utilizes the activities of lessons 1 and 2.
