The student will draw a design that depicts Pueblo Pottery designs, by learning to contrast two elements, such as black with white.
The teacher will read information on Pueblo Pottery designs, see bibliography. The teacher will make several photocopies of pottery designs depicted in reference books so the students may utilize them as visual aids. The teacher will encourage the students to experiment on there own to learn to utilize the art technique of contrast. Contrast is the use of two or more elements with a significant difference such as black with white. The teacher may apply the strategy used in Language Arts, which is to compare and contrast, by creating a Venn diagram.
The student will know how to compare and contrast utilizing a Venn diagram. The student will have the ability to know what likenesses and differences are by comparing two characters in a story. The student will be able to transfer the knowledge to art by taking two elements, or color, black and white to design pueblo pottery. The student will know the two colors are light in color and dark in color. The student will know how to repeat this pattern by placing it side by side to design a Pueblo Pottery design.
The student will learn how to draw a Pueblo Pottery design by learning to contrast two elements, black with white. The student will draw a design that repeats, which will resemble a pottery design.
The students may compare and contrast the different types of Pueblo pottery designs, by separating them into Native American Tribes and the elements of color. Here are a few different types of elements; black on white, black on red(iron oxide), black on yellow ochre and white on black.
The student will select a few final drafts of the black on white Pueblo pottery designs by displaying them in the foyer during School Family Night.
