Summary

The students will make a walking tour of American Fork. They will use GPS coordinates, photos, and write brief paragraphs explaining the locations.

Background for Teachers

We had a community need. As far as we know, there are no tours of American Fork, Utah. Most of the building of importance are unknown to the public.


Student Prior Knowledge

Students need to have an understanding of photography. They also need to understand how to mark waypoints on a GPS unit.


Intended Learning Outcomes

The students will be able to: Effectively use a digital camera. Effectively use a GPS unit. Create a description of a landmark. Effectively use photoshop.


Instructional Procedures

Community Partner: American Fork Historical Society. Project Timeline: Once the community partner has been identified, and historical landmarks/building identified, it will take approximately four class periods (one hour twenty mins) to complete the projects. Project Evaluations and Suggestions: The student will make a brochure on a historical place in American Fork. The brochure will have six columns. The students include at least four photographs. The text will cover the historical site. Interesting facts will be included and historical ties to American Fork will be made. The information on the brochure needs to be logical in sequence and intuitive.
