Summary

Students will write addition story problems with two digit numbers.


Materials

Paper, pencil, scisors,manipulatives, you tube videos, games, for addition and subtraction.


Background for Teachers

Teachers need to be able to download videos from U tube and embed them to the lesson.


Student Prior Knowledge

Students need to be able to add and subtract single digit numbers, they also need to be familiar with different ways of adding and subtracting numbers and with math vocabulary involving these two operations.


Intended Learning Outcomes

Students need to be able to distinguish the difference between addition and subtraction in connection with story problems.


Instructional Procedures

1. Review addition strategies (different ways of adding single and two digit numbers. 2. Watch a video about addition 3. Play a game about adding two digit numbers. 4. Get into groups of four to create a story problem.


Strategies for Diverse Learners

Gifted students can create story problems involving three digit numbers and also they can work individually. Struggling students can work with single digit numbers and work in a small group. They can also just add single digit numbers.


Extensions

Students can share their story problems with the whole class.

Attachments

Students will be asked to write and solve two story problems. One problem for addition and one problem for subtraction.
