This lesson will teach students the proper way to utilize the iPad in the classroom.

Teacher needs to know how to properly use the iPad and be able to demonstrate correct practices.

Follow specific equipment safety practices for use of iPads.
1. Introduce the lesson by modeling the iPad and possible uses (apps, pictures, video, etc). 2. Ask students questions: What do you know about iPads? What do you use iPads for? Have you ever used an iPad? What do you think we might do with iPads this year? 3. Show the video clip "iPad Rules and Expectations" from the YouTube link. 4. Put students into 7 groups. Assign each group one of the rules/expectations to model for the class. 5. After practicing in their groups, have student's model their assigned rule/expectation for the rest of the class. 6. Wrap-up lesson by reading "Goodnight, iPad" by Ann Droyd. Stress the importance that although the iPad is a useful tool that will be used for school, it is important to power it down and take a break from technology.
For the high ability learner: create a story that compares and contrasts 2 characters that follow/do not follow the proper rules and expectations of using iPads. Struggling/Special Need Students: pair them up with a partner to practice following the rules/expectations and verbally repeat them as they practice.
Students can create a project based learning activity using the iPad.
Students will be assessed through informal observation. Students may also be assessed using the kahoot.it web based quiz titled: iPad Rules and Expectations by Mrs_Orton (https://create.kahoot.it/#quiz/74145778-ca7b-469a-bd36-3e21b7c66fea/done)
