Summary

After reviewing the rules of capitalization in writing, students will need to design and create an infographic which illustrates all of the rules of capitalization. Students will need to peer edit and edit own infographic. Students will be able to grade others' work by using the infographic rubric.

    Websites

    Teachers need to explore and become knowledgeable about the infographic site they will be having students use.


    Student Prior Knowledge

    Students need to have knowledge about the rules of capitalization. They need to be able to create examples for each of the rules. Students will need to have knowledge about how to save images on the internet to their personal files. Students will need to know how to cite internet sources on their infographic.


    Intended Learning Outcomes

    After completing this activity, students will be able to:

    • correctly use capitalization in their writing
    • correctly edit their own writing and that of peers
    • design and illustrate ideas using technology
    • collaborate with peers
    • students will be able to create and design an infographic

    • Instructional Procedures

      After direct instruction on the rules of capitalization, teacher will:

      • Show samples of good infographics and bad infographics to class
      • Discuss infographic rubric with students
      • Demonstrate for students on projector how to use the infographic site. Show them how to pick a background, drag pictures, insert text box, change color and font.
      • Show students how to log onto site with their school email account.
      • Students will create an infographic that addresses the key rules of capitalization
      • Students will then use a rubric to assess two other peers' infographics
      • After collaborating with peers who graded their infographic, students will edit and make final corrections on their infographic before printing final copy

      • Strategies for Diverse Learners

        Struggling students can be paired up with another student or given fewer concepts to illustrate on their infographic.


        Assessment Plan

        Students will be given a copy of the Keele Infographic Rubric. Students will use the rubric to collaborate with peers and peer edit work.
