Journey Through the Rock Cycle

Summary

Students will use a written story to describe the path of a quartz grain through the rock cycle.

Materials

If doing a story book:

• paper
• colored pencils or markers
• student sheet for storybook (attached)

If doing a story:

• paper and pencil or computer
• student sheet for story (attached)

Background for Teachers

Note about time needed: Picture Book-70-90 minutes, Story-50 minutes

Instructional Procedures

1. Provide students with student sheet and explain rubric.
2. Show students where materials are located.
3. Allow time for students to work.
4. Have students peer edit work in groups of two, using the rubric.
5. Allow students to circulate their work and read other students work. You might wish to assign them small groups for this activity.
