    The third of three Topper films (Topper - 1937 and Topper Takes A Trip - 1939), Roland Young stars again as the unflappable Cosmo Topper battling yet another ghost. The ghostly events start when Topper picks up two pretty hitchhikers and offers to have his chauffeur (Eddie "Rochester" Anderson of Jack Benny fame) take them to the creepy Carrington mansion. One of the ladies, Ann Carrington (Carole Landis) is the ailing Mr. Carrington's daughter who is to inherit the entire estate the next day, if she is still alive! When Ann gallantly offers to let her friend Gail Richards (Blondell) spend the night in the beautiful bedroom her "father" has decorated specifically for her...hang on for dear life!

  • The 39 Steps (1935)

    Richard Hannay is a Canadian visitor to 1930s London. After a disturbance at a music hall, he meets Annabella Smith, who is on the run from foreign agents. He takes her back to his apartment, but they are followed and later that night Annabella is murdered. Hannay goes on the run to break the spy ring and thus prove his innocence. Adapted from the novel by John Buchan.

But her father will not allow Bianca to be married until her older sister, who is notoriously quarrelsome and bad-tempered, is married first. When Petruchio comes from Verona to Padua in search of a wife, he hears of this situation, and he accepts the challenge of trying to woo and marry the ill-natured Katherine.   • King Lear (1970)

    King Lear, old and tired, divides his kingdom among his daughters, giving great importance to their protestations of love for him. When Cordelia, youngest and most honest, refuses to idly flatter the old man in return for favor, he banishes her and turns for support to his remaining daughters. But Goneril and Regan have no love for him and instead plot to take all his power from him. In a parallel, Lear's loyal courtier Gloucester favors his illegitimate son Edmund after being told lies about his faithful son Edgar. Madness and tragedy befall both ill-starred fathers.
