Summary

Materials

  • Posterboard 12' X 18'
  • pencil
  • poster paints
  • crayons
  • watercolor
  • chalks
  • colored pencils
  • scissors.

Background for Teachers

Students will decide on a slogan for their billboard. Discuss some of the billboards they may have seen. Talk about events in Utah history and how these events can be turned into slogans. Such as, Pack your wagon - 'Come to Utah!' When their slogan is in place the students will then need to design the appropriate billboard to display their slogan. Such as, A covered wagon.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Using a sesquicentennial theme students will be able to design a billboard that tells people why they should come to Utah.

Instructional Procedures

Students are to write a short 5 to 6 word slogan for the Utah Sesquicentennial.

Design an unusual billboard that fits your slogan. When the design is finished add the slogan as part of the design.

Using the 12' X 18' posterboard sketch the design for your slogan. When the design is finished add the slogan as part of the design.

Use various mediums to color your design and slogan. This can either be student or teacher choice.

Use the billboard designs and slogans as displays around the school. This is a great way to bring awareness to the Utah Sesquicentennial.
