AI & School Leadership Collaborative

Welcome to the AI & School Leadership Collaborative
The AI & School Leadership Collaborative is an exciting new initiative from the Utah Education Network and the Utah Education Policy Center, designed for K-12 school leaders who are ready to explore how artificial intelligence can support strategic planning, instructional leadership and personalize teaching and learning.

With guidance from experts at the Utah Education Policy Center, the Utah Education Network and leading professionals in the field, this collaborative empowers school leadership teams to utilize AI in developing innovative, human-centered solutions to their school’s most pressing challenges.

School-Based Collaborative Teams
Each school team within the program will include the school’s principal (you!), an instructional coach or assistant principal, and two or three teachers, meaning you’ll have the chance to learn with others who are deeply familiar with your school’s strengths and challenges.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of program, participants will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the following:

  1. Understand the differences between traditional and generative artificial intelligence
  2. Describe LEA, sate, and national laws and policies governing the use of official intelligence in schools
  3. Adopt. ethical AI practices that enhance human-AI collaboration while preserving human connection ad professional integrity
  4. Employ generative AI tools (Gemini, NotebookLM, SchoolAI, MagicSchool, Skill Struck, Brisk, and others) to deepen and enhance classroom instruction and school processes
  5. Utilize the 4D framework to develop teachers' and students' AI fluency
  6. Craft AI policies/guidelines that support learning and protect student data privacy
  7. Apply UEN's HUMAN framework to support effective implementation of student-facing artificial intelligence in the classroom
  8. Develop an ongoing professional learning plan designed to build staff members', teachers', and students' AI fluency

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to participate?
Participation in the AI & School Leadership is entirely free—there is no cost to your school other than the time associated with participation.

Can I earn credit or relicensure points for participating in the program?
The AI & School Leadership Collaborative offers two credit options: 1 USBE credit or 0.5 USBE credit. To earn 1 USBE credit, participants must attend all five sessions and complete a modest amount of intersession work (3-5 total hours). Participants who miss a session or do not complete intersession work are eligible to earn 0.5 USBE credit.

Who should apply?
Principals should apply on behalf of themselves and their leadership teams. Every school team should include 3-5 members: the principal, an assistant principal or instructional coach, and one to three teachers. Because Cohort 2 is entirely virtual, school teams from rural LEAs will be prioritized.
