Introduction/Pre-Assessment
Use the "End of the Rainbow Activity", Activities that Teach, by Tom Jackson.

Option 1: FEFE Investment in Yourself Lesson Plan
In this lesson the students evaluate their human capital by learning about qualities employers seek and determining what they can do to develop these qualities.

Step #1: Go to: http://www.fefe.arizona.edu/download-lessons. (You will need to register and log in to this website prior to use)
Step #2: Click on Educational Resources, then click on Curriculum, then click on 1.0 Career Development.
Step #3: Click on 1.1.9 Investment in Yourself and download the lesson plan and resources.

Option 2: FEFE Career Research Lesson Plan
In this lesson students use current government publications as references to research careers and employment projections. This information is used to design and present a PowerPoint presentation about their chosen career.

Step #1: Go to: http://www.fefe.arizona.edu/download-lessons. (You will need to register and log in to this website prior to use)
Step #2: Click on Educational Resources, then click on Curriculum, then click on 1.0 Career Development.
Step #3: Click on 1.1.2 Career Research and download the lesson plan and resources.

You may want to complete the "Interest Inventory" FEFE lesson plan 1.1.6 to help students pick a career.

Option 3: Careers and Income
Use the Career/Income Teacher Information (pdf), Activity Rubric (pdf), and List of Activities and Assignments (pdf) to help the students understand how one goes about selecting a career. These also outline sources to use when researching numerous careers, the impact of career choices on income, financial stability, goals and dreams. Summary/Evaluation
Students will be able to understand how one goes about selecting a career, sources to use when researching numerous careers, the impact of career choices on income, financial stability, goals and dreams. Identify the benefits of education, training and personal skills (SCAN Skills) needed in careers. Practice filling out job applications, what to include in a resume, the hiring process, how to interview, employer expectations, benefits offered to employees, hidden costs of a job, the risks and rewards of being an entrepreneur or self-employed.
