Instructional Procedures

The first two pages of this document explain that there are differences in culture that affect communication--not everyone is like we are.

The next two pages are from a newspaper article that I found several years ago explaining some words and phrases that are common in Utah.

The next two pages are words that are used in different regions in the US.

Next, are some general culture differences around the world, and then comes high-context and low-context cultures around the world.

Three different assessment are found in this file.

  1. Students can login to the Pioneer Library and locate the differences in greetings, gestures, and visiting and eating habits on different continents.
  2. Students write a one-page report explaining the differences between low-context and high-context cultures.
  3. Students can work in groups to research information to share with the rest of the class that would prepare class members to travel to that country for business purposes. This is the part that can take several days if you want it to. Students can make posters, bring food, create electronic presentations or whatever you want them to do.
